A member on the Embarcadero at dusk

A credit union for the city we live in.

Member-owned, not-for-profit, and based in San Francisco since 2026.

Our story

We started with a simple question.

Why does banking feel so complicated, when most of what people need is simple? A safe place to keep money, a fair loan when they need one, and a person to talk to.

Copper opened its first mint on Valencia Street with that list and not much else. Every member is an owner, so profits come back as lower rates and fewer fees.

Inside the Valencia Street mint

What we believe

Four promises we keep.

  • 01

    Plain English

If a fee needs a paragraph to explain, we do not charge it.

  • 02

    People first

Profits go back to members as better rates, not to shareholders.

  • 03

    Local decisions

Loans are decided by people who live here.

  • 04

    Coffee’s on

Every mint is a place you would actually want to walk into.
